About me

I was born into racing. My family's involvement in this sport dates back three generations. I can remember sitting in the infield of Santa Anita as a 9-year-old kid, watching Spectacular Bid win the Big Cap. I knew then that racing was wonderful and that the sport would be a huge part of my life forever. After high school, I went to a junior college for a couple years but found myself studying the Daily Racing Form instead of non-western civ. I ditched school, if only temporarily, and worked at the track as a handicapper and clocker for a couple So. Cal. newspapers in conjunction with my Dad (Terry Turrell) and my brother (Toby Turrell). But, in 1994 I decided to take advantage of the college experience at the University of Arizona Racetrack Industry Program. There I was surrounded by people with the same passions I had, and I became life-long friends with many of them. It was priceless. A couple years later, I packed my tack and moved to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex to open Lone Star Park as a chart caller/handicapper/writer. After a great two years in the Lone Star State, I returned to California to continue handicapping and clocking. Then one day Stephen Nagler caught me doing a television seminar on the Del Mar Simulcast Show and asked me to get involved in some ESPN horseracing telecasts. Well, I never left and am fortunate enough to have spent the last 10 years following the best horseracing in the world -- from Santa Anita to Dubai. It's been a wild ride and I look forward to being a part of the horseplayerpro.com team. We are TRUE horseplayers. We want this to be YOUR community. The house of the HORSEPLAYER. Get tied on, we're gonna have some fun!
